Day 3 – Zabljak to Sarajevo
The first stage of Cycle4Europe is done. On Saturday evening, Team 1 reached Bosnia and had thereby completed their first stage, from Skopje to Sarajevo.
Day 3 started in Zabljak, Montenegro. At 8.30 in the morning the team left Zabljak heading for Sarajevo in Bosnia. Like the day before, this day too consisted of a lot of altimeters to climb. The first few hours of cykling took place in Montenegro, where the roads were in good shape and had clear road markings. This took a turn for the worse when they passed the border to Bosnia around 11 a.m. Here, the roads were old and bumpy and the team had to slow down a bit. A lot of the buildings In Bosnia, especially in Sarajevo still contained tracks from the war, acting as a reminder of the area’s history. After 169 kilometers, Team 1 reached Sarajevo and thereby concluded their first stage. Team 1 will return in Berlin for Cycle4Europe’s fourth and final stage.
– This has been a life changing experience. What we saw visiting some of the homes in Skopje was truly horrific, but we also got to witness how big a difference Loza Foundation really can make when they get the chance, especially when they get to influence politics. Cycle4Europe has gotten a lot of attention so far and we all hope this will grow even more. After what we witnessed in Skopje, the cycling didn’t feel like that big a challenge anymore, not in comparison to what the people living in the homes experience. Now I can’t wait to get back in the saddle and finish the route, said Peter Algebäck, Team 1.
